Touch Edition PRS-600

Touch functionality separates Sony from the other eReaders

The Sony Reader Touch Edition was the high end Sony eReader upon its release. Priced at $300, the device distinguishes itself from the competition with its touch screen. Having been released well before rivals like the Apple iPad that used this feature, the Touch Edition was truly ahead of its time. Offering cutting edge technology on one of the best electronic book readers, it's a great option for everyone on the market.

Providing users with a new way to use their Sony eReader, the Reader Touch Edition is the only ebook reader with a touch screen interface. While the previously mentioned iPad also has this feature, I don't really consider that device in the same category as it doesn't put its main focus on reading.

When looking at the Touch Editions other features, it is remarkably powerful. The Sony Touch comes with 512MB of internal memory, 380MB of which are usable by the user. Thus, as a default, there is plenty of room for the user to save their books and have a large library available. However, this Sony eReader also comes with expandable memory support, working with Sony Memory Stick Pro Duos and SDHC cards. Thus, you should have more than enough room for anything you want.

In terms of size, the Touch is also slightly larger than the Pocket Edition. This version of the Sony Reader clocks in at 6 inches. This size is fairly standard nowadays and provides the right amount of room to have a good reading range, while not making the device too clunky.

Overall, the Sony Reader Touch Edition, priced at $300 is reasonably comparable to the Amazon Kindle 2 and well worth looking at for people seeking an alternative.
