Pocket Edition PRS-300
Small enough to fit in your pocket, and cheap enough too
At the time of its release, the Sony eReader Pocket Edition was easily the best value on the market. Priced at 200 dollars, the Pocket Edition was a stripped down eReader that was meant to put these products into the price range of every consumer. We'll try and go through some of the major features of the PRS-300 to help you understand why it's so cheap, and to determine if it is the right option for you.
Compared to Sony's other eReaders, the pocket edition is limited in that it has no touch screen interface. While this hardly seems significant given that no other products on the market currently have this option, it is a big deal for Sony as that was their major difference. What's more, it's screen is slightly smaller, coming in at 5 inches, hence the product's name as "pocket edition." Overall, the device has been significantly downgraded, but it should be expected given the low price range, and for many people, these downgrades might not be a huge deal.
Even without these features, the cheapest Sony eReader offers a good deal. It's battery still lasts two weeks per charge, and it is fully capable of downloading and reading books, the most important functionality for these devices. What's more, some people might prefer the smaller size, as it makes this one of the most portable electronic book devices on the market.
As such, the Sony eReader Pocket Edition is a good deal for those who just want the basic functionality without any of the extra gizmos. It might not be the most cutting edge technology on the market, but at a low price point, it's hard to argue with it.
